This feature does not require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. When a friend has been playing the game and is online at around the same time, it will share the same Mystery Box and Toad House benefits as on Nintendo 3DS. The original game's StreetPass functionality is reimplemented. Courses have an indicator for being cleared in multiplayer, though this is not required for 100% completion. If both players choose the same character, the guest plays as a Toad with the same abilities. Each player can choose their character between those that have been unlocked. Two-player local and online play is available. The world map interface has been entirely rearranged to accommodate the single screen and match elements of the in-course layout. The touchscreen camera controls are only present when playing undocked with a single Joy-Con, and the depth view indicator only appears during VR play. Within courses, it is laid out similarly to Super Mario 3D World. The game interface is tweaked to fit on one screen. The Synchro Ground Pound is also available in multiplayer. The Ground Pound Jump and Dive moves have been added. ![]()
